Our senior software architect approaches each technical due diligence assignment like peeling an onion. He begins with a preliminary needs analysis based on the investment thesis, followed by a review of the project plan and meetings with business leaders. Typically, our senior software architect starts with a C-level conversation about vision and direction with a top technical person (e.g., CTO, VP of Innovation). From there, it transitions to product management discussions, and then to technical leads such as software architects, principal engineers, and wizard devs. Next, the conversation moves to the team and their organization, followed by infrastructure, including dev ops, SREs, system construction, and third-party integrations, and finally, coding.

This is followed by a high-level technology analysis, formulation of an initial opinion, and feedback with the investment team. We then conduct a detailed analysis of the development plan, including a meeting with the project manager. Our top-down analysis covers technologies and their implementation, encompassing solution architecture, infrastructure and services, application services, design patterns, source code, documentation, and costs and returns. Finally, we produce a summary report, which is followed by a subsequent presentation and discussion.
